Population and dissenters: About Seventy of these, two are Dissenters. One of the Presbyterian, the other of the Anabaptist denomination. There is no licenced nor other meeting House of Dissenters in our Parish.
Public or charity schools: There is no publick or Charity School endow’d. But there is Thirty three pounds given to the Parish of Tallaton by Charles Harward late Rector thereof, for the maintenance of poor Children to School for ever, to be order’d and apply’d by the Rector of Tallaton for the time being: which is apply’d accordingly, in the education of six poor Children who constantly frequent their Church and are instructed in its Catechism. I have heard also within these few days of a Legacy of twenty Pounds given by Mrs Elizabeth Prideaux for the education of poor Children at School which money was said to be placed out, in the hands of one Nicholas Harris of Tallaton who at present is supposed to be insolvent.
Alms-house, hospital or charitable endowment:
There is no Alms-house, Hospital or other charitable Endowment in our Parish. There are Lands to the yearly value of one pound five shillings given to ten of the substantial Inhabitants of Tallaton for the time being, in trust for the poor of the said Parish. And also a House now let for four pound a year given to Feoffees for the use of the Poor of the said Parish. I neither know nor have heard of any abuses or frauds <committed> in the management of them.
