Chanter 225B, 423-424

  1. Population and dissenters: There are in the Parish of Yalmeton about an hundred and ten families. There are none of them Dissenters; nor is there any licenced or other meetinghouse of Dissenters in the Parish. And in the Chapelry of Revelstock about forty families: none of those likewise profess themselves Dissenters. This account includes both householders & Cottagers.

  2. Public or charity schools: There is no publick or Charity school, endowed or otherwise maintained, in my Parish.

  3. Alms-house, hospital or charitable endowment: There is no Alms-house, Hospital, nor other Charitable endowment in my Parish, besides an hundred pounds Sterling, the interest of which is to be distributed annually amongst the poor by the Minister and Churchwardens for the time being; which is accordingly done without any abuse or fraud. There have no lands nor Tenements been left for the Repair of the Church, nor other pious use, so far was we know.

  4. Residence upon cure: No. The cause of my Absence at first was want of health & since I have been in London, have been engaged as one of the Masters in Merchant-Taylors School.

  5. Curate: Yes. His name John Laskey; has taken the degree of Batchelor of Arts in the University of Oxford, & hath been for some time in Priest's orders; & Licens'd by ye Lordship. His allowance thirty pounds per annum together with all the Surplice fees, & the Vicarage house & Gardens.

  6. Divine service at other churches: I do not perform Divine Service at any Church besides my own, and the Daughter Church of Revelstock, which is a Chappel annex'd to the vicarage, where Divine Service is performed every third Sunday in the afternoon, according to ancient custom; & the holy Sacrament of the Lord's Supper administer'd on fourseveral sundays, i.e. on Trinity-sunday, the Sundays next after Michaelmas, Xtmass, & Easter.

  7. Frequency of divine service: Divine Service is performed in {my} the parish Church, on all Sundays in the year, except four (when the Sacrament is administred at <the chapel of> Revelstock & <on> all the feasts and fasts of the Church. It is perform'd twice every Lord's day with a Sermon in the morning excepting every third Lord's-day (and the four mention'd before) when it has been long accustom'd to be perform'd at the Daughter Church of Revelstock in the afternoon.

  8. Frequency of communion: The Holy Sacrament of the Lord's supper is administred five times in the year at the Church, {& <four times in the year at the> chapple} is on the Sunday next before Xtmass-day on Xtmass-day, on Easter-day, Whitsunday, & the Sunday next before Michaelmas & at the Chapel of Revelstock as above Q. vi.

  9. Number of communicants: There are about fifty Communicants in my Parish, which usually receive: And about that number communicated at Easter last past i.e. at the mother-church & Chappel <together> at the last the number of Communicants is seldom more than fifteen.

  10. Catechising of children: The Children are catechiz'd in my Church every Lord's-day in the afternoon, when divine service is perform'd, the greatest part of the year, And the parishioners do send their Children and Servts to be instructed by me.

  11. Chapels or chapels in ruins: There is the Chappel of Revelstock which is annex'd to the Vicarage of Yalmeton. The Chapel is situated upon the very brink of the ocean & is distant from the Parish-church between 4 & 5 miles. There are likewise some small remains <of the ruins> of a Chapel in a village (within the Chapelry of Revelstock) call'd Nosse said to have been formerly a borough-town, but now a small village of Cottages only, inhabited by fishingmen, day-labourers & such like. The chapel of Revelstock is serv'd as Q: <vi> & vii.

  1. Population and dissenters: There are an hundred and fourteen families in my Parish all of the Church of England.

  2. Public or charity schools: There is no publick or Charity School, endow'd or otherwise maintaind in my Parish.

  3. Alms-house, hospital or charitable endowment: There is no Alms house, Hospital, or other charitable endowment in my Parish.

  4. Residence upon cure: The Vicar doth not reside personally upon his Cure, but in London, on account of his health; for which he had leave; first of your Lordship's Predecessor; & then from the Archbishop during the vacancy, who ordain'd me Deacon upon the Title of the Curacy as your Lordship did Priest upon the same.

  5. Curate: I John Laskey am Curate, and constantly resident. I was Licensd to serve the Cure by your Lordship. I do not live in the Parsonage house, which is let to a Tenant. I am allow'd Thirty Pounds a year, and the surplice fees.

  6. Divine service at other churches: I do not perform Divine Service at any Church besides this and the Daughter Church.

  7. Frequency of divine service: Divine Service is perform'd in my Church on all Sundays & Holydays in the year, except four <Sundays> when the Sacrament is administred at the Daughter Church of Revelstock. There is a Sermon on every Lord's-day in the morning, and Divine Service both then and in the afternoon, except on the Days abovemention'd, and every third sunday and four sundays a year besides when the Minister hath been long accustom'd to perform Divine service at the Daughter Church of Revelstock.
