To the Revd the Minister of Kingston

Chanter 232B, 523

  1. Residence, curate and lecturer: I have the honour of your Lordships permission for residing at Modbury.

  2. Other benefices: I have but one Benefice.

  3. Divine service at other churches: I do not serve any Church but my own.

  4. Frequency of divine service: Divine service is performed every Sunday in the afternoon, excepting the first Sunday in every month, and the four days on which the Sacrament is administered at Ermington: when there is service and a Sermon at that Church both morning and afternoon.

  5. Frequency of communion: The sacrament of the Lords supper is administered on the several Sundays immediately following the three great Festivals, and on the 2d Sunday after the Feast of St. Michael: on which days divine service is performed both morning and afternoon. I do not remember the number of Communicants to exceed fifteen.

  6. Catechising of children: There is a good private school in the Parish, where reading and writing are taught. On that account I presume it has not been customary for my predecessors to catechise publickly: but I shall begin to do so immediately, as preparatory to your Lordships Confirmation.

  7. Church fabric: As Rural Dean I have already presented the north wall of the Church to be greatly out of a perpendicular and the north east Windows and the wall of the Churchyard as out of repair. They continue in the same state. All other things are in decent and proper order.

  8. Glebe terrier: There is a Terrier of Glebe Lands &c belonging to Ermington (to which Kingston is annexed) which are principally in the Parish of Kingston.

  9. Number of families: About 50.

  10. Chapels: In Eatons thesaurus, Kingston is called a Chapel to Ermington there is but one Church or Chapel in the Parish.

  11. Papists, dissenters and meeting houses: There is not any reputed Papist in the Parish, nor any meeting House for dissenting Congregations.

  12. School, alms-houses, hospital and charitable endowments: There is one good private school in the Parish and several other small ones but no publick School nor Alms House Hospital or Parochial Library.

  13. Charity: I do not know there are any.

Priest's orders and institution: I was ordained Priest at Wells the first of June 1760 and Instituted to the vicarage of Ermington (to which Kingston is annexed) the 15th of November 1775. A letter directed for me at Modbury will most probably find your Lordships most dutiful and obedt servt
