Citation guidelines

Different publications and websites will have their own house styles for citing internet resources. As a general rule, citations from the document transcripts should include the name of the editor of the documents, the title of the resource, the appropriate web address (URL) and the date on which the resource was accessed. The following examples provide one suitable method of citation.

Devon and Exeter Oath Rolls, 1723:

Simon Dixon (ed.), "Devon and Exeter Oath Rolls, 1723", Friends of Devon's Archives (www.foda.org.uk/oaths, 26 March 2007), QS17/1/17/3a. [where QS17/1/17/3a represents the document reference stated at the top of each page].

Episcopal Visitation Returns, 1744 and 1779

Simon Dixon (ed.), "Episcopal Visitation Returns, 1744 and 1779", Friends of Devon's Archives (www.foda.org.uk/visitations, 26 March 2007), Chanter 225B, 822-823. [where Chanter 225B, 822-823 represents the document reference provided at the beginning of the transcript].

Similarly, if you wish to cite the historical background to a document transcript please include the name of the author. For example,
