“Now perhaps more than ever before, the written heritage of Devon needs friends – people who want to share their understanding of its riches, who want to celebrate the personal stories and social histories that it contains, and who are keen to preserve it for future generations. Please do lend your support.”

– Dr Ian Mortimer, author of The Time Traveller’s Guides.

The Friends of Devon’s Archives promotes the preservation and use of historical records relating to the history of Devon, and raises public awareness of their importance for research and education. We provide financial support for the acquisition and conservation of Devon documents. We also arrange two day-long conferences each year (one in the Spring and one in the Autumn) and arrange volunteer projects. An important part of our work is to liaise closely with archive services in the South West and national organisations to improve the standards of care and availability of the county’s written and pictorial heritage.
